Helping Mentors Develop Their Skills
All CTI Reflective Coaches begin their role with professional learning focused on developing mentoring skills and on better understanding the unique needs of teachers. They continue their development as a mentor through quarterly sessions, connecting mentoring concepts and resources to the growth-oriented reflective conversations they have with their new teacher colleagues.
Incorporating professional learning that draws on current research in technology and neuroscience, Reflective Coaches meet weekly in face-to-face or synchronous sessions and always willing to answer questions or collaborate in problem-solving that will make for a smoother teaching experience. Although the goal is to facilitate their candidates’ application of new teaching practices through cycles of inquiry designed to improve teaching practice and student outcomes, candidates and Reflective Coaches alike typically find the relationship they build to be the strength of the induction experience.
